NACS Foundation Partners with Caravan Project
Project Strives to Provide Content in Multiple Formats
OBERLIN, OH (December 4, 2007)
A grant from the NACS Foundation, the charitable branch of the National Association of College Stores (NACS), will help fund a national project aimed at providing consumers access to reading materials in multiple formats. The $25,000 grant to the Caravan Project, a partnership of publishers, booksellers and libraries, would support the establishment of programs in college stores, that would enable consumers to access digital, downloadable and large-print books on demand.
The Caravan Project has already proven successful at creating and delivering content in different formats for consumers. The grant from the NACS Foundation will enable the Caravan Project to deliver on the other half of its mission which is to assist booksellers, like college stores, in obtaining tools and understanding of how to sell books on demand in any format from a digital source. The grant will support the development of both education and marketing materials stores can use to participate in the Caravan Project.
''At this time in our industry, when many facets of higher education are exploring ways to meet the student consumer expectations for accessibility and affordability of course materials, the Caravan Project represents a practical and sensible solution that college stores can participate in and learn from,''said Fred Neely, President of the NACS Foundation.
In a recent communication to its members, the NACS Board expressed its continuing interest in forging stronger and more meaningful relationships with higher education publishers to ensure college stores remain an integral part of delivering content to students and satisfying their expectations. ''The NACS Foundation is proud to be able to lead this effort with this grant to the Caravan Project, knowing that it ultimately supports a more collaborative and cooperative solution to the challenges we face in the industry'' said Neely.
